After a disappointing run in the Europa league last year, could Manchester City compete agianst the best in Europe, especially against nine time champion Real Madrid. Jose Mourinho’s squad has a lot to prove in this tournament especially with the latest headlines that surround the team coming into the game at home at The Santiago Bearnbeu Stadium in Madrid. Real Madrid was one game away from competing for that elusive tenth title that they have been seeking for a very long time. The first half was scoreless, but it featured plenty of opportunities for Real, but no goals. Manchester City had a tough time mustering up offence against the super club as both went into half time tied at zero.
The second half was a completely different story as their was plenty of action between the two teams that would make the average fair weather fan excited. Manchester City would open up the scoring in the 69th minute when Yaya Toure delivered a beautiful pass to Edin Dzeko who beat out his defender in a foot race and he beats out Saint Iker for the first goal of the game. Real Madrid would answer back in the 75th minute when Marcelo receives the back pass near the top of the box. He shoots the ball and it takes a deflection off of a Man City defender and it beats Joe Hart for the equalizer. In the 85TH minute, Man City would retake the lead when Aleksander Kolarov’s free kick beat both Xabi Alonso and Iker Casillas for the 2 to 1 lead. In the 89TH minute, Karim Benzema gets the ball near the box, performs an amazing spin move, and beats it Joe Hart for the equalizer. Mean while with all the chances Cristiano Ronaldo had, you wondered if lady luck was avoiding him all game. In the 89TH minute, Ronaldo would score the game winner that was a rocket that bounced under Joe Hart and went in. The game would finish 3 to 2 with Real Madrid recording their 100TH Champions League win in the teams history. It’s three points for Real Madrid as they look to advance to the knock out stage.
